Thermally modified maple (roasted maple) is interesting for the production of musical instruments due to its properties. This modification changes its properties. Thermal modification makes it much lighter, stronger (better withstanding a tension and pressure), has minimal internal tension and is much more hydrophobic, which is reflected in significant stability when humidity and temperature are changed. Also the deep color change makes this wood such interesting.
